Efficient canvas navigation is essential for productive design work. Learn all the ways to pan around and zoom into your designs.
Panning (Moving the View)
Panning moves your view of the canvas without moving any elements.
Pan Methods
| Method | How to Use |
|---|---|
| Hand Tool | Press H then click and drag |
| Space + Drag | Hold Space and drag (works with any tool) |
| Hold H + Drag | Hold H key and drag (returns to previous tool on release) |
| Two-finger scroll | Scroll in any direction on trackpad |
| Middle mouse button | Click and drag with middle button |
| Smart Scroll bars | Drag the scroll bars when they appear (see below) |
Hold Space to temporarily activate the Hand tool from any other tool. Release to return
to your previous tool. This is the fastest way to pan while drawing.
Smart Scrollbars
Azyrom features Figma-style smart scrollbars that intelligently show and hide based on your content visibility.
How Smart Scrollbars Work
The scrollbars automatically appear only when needed:
- Hidden by default - When all elements fit within the viewport, scrollbars are hidden for a cleaner workspace
- Horizontal scrollbar - Appears when elements extend beyond the left or right edges of the viewport
- Vertical scrollbar - Appears when elements extend beyond the top or bottom edges
- Both scrollbars - Appear when content extends in multiple directions
Dynamic Thumb Sizing
The scrollbar thumb (the draggable part) dynamically adjusts to show how much content is visible:
- Large thumb - Most of your content is visible; less to scroll
- Small thumb - You're viewing a small portion of a large canvas; more to explore
- Zoom responsive - Thumb size updates as you zoom in (smaller) or out (larger)
Using Scrollbars
Scrollbars provide visual feedback and navigation:
- Drag the thumb - Click and drag to pan across the canvas
- Click the track - Jump to a specific area
- Visual indicator - See which portion of your design is currently visible
- Real-time updates - Scrollbars update as you add, move, or delete elements
The scrollbar thumb size helps you understand your canvas at a glance. A tiny thumb means you're zoomed in on a large design - perfect for detail work. A large thumb means you're seeing most of your content - ideal for layout adjustments.
Zooming
Zooming lets you work at different levels of detail, from a bird's eye view to pixel-perfect precision.
