The Line tool creates straight line segments between two points. Lines can be styled with different stroke widths, colors, and end caps.
Drawing Lines
- Press
Lto activate the Line tool - Click and drag from start point to end point
- Release to complete the line
Keyboard Modifiers
- Shift - Constrain to 45-degree angle increments (horizontal, vertical, diagonal)
- Alt/Option - Draw from center point outward
- Shift + Alt - Combine both constraints
Line Properties
Configure line appearance in the Properties panel:
- Stroke Color - Line color
- Stroke Width - Line thickness in pixels
- Stroke Cap - End style: Butt, Round, or Square
- Dash Pattern - Create dashed or dotted lines
- Opacity - Line transparency
Stroke Caps
- Butt - Line ends exactly at the endpoint
- Round - Rounded semicircle at endpoints
- Square - Square cap extending past endpoint
Editing Lines
- Select with the Selection tool to move entire line
- Double-click to edit endpoints individually
- Drag endpoints to reposition
- Use transform handles to rotate or scale
Tips
- Use Shift to draw perfectly horizontal, vertical, or 45-degree lines
- Lines can be converted to paths for further editing with the Pen tool
- Add arrows by applying arrowhead markers in stroke settings
- Group multiple lines to create diagrams or wireframes
