The Scale Tool provides precise control over resizing elements while maintaining proportions, stroke weights, effects, and relative positions. Unlike regular resize handles, the Scale Tool scales everything uniformly including strokes and effects.
Activating the Scale Tool
- Select the Scale Tool from the toolbar
- Or press
Kto activate - Works on single elements or multi-selections
Basic Scaling
- Select one or more elements
- Activate the Scale Tool
- Drag any corner or edge handle
- Elements scale from the center or chosen origin
Scale vs Resize
| Scale Tool | Regular Resize |
|---|---|
| Scales stroke weights | Strokes stay same weight |
| Scales corner radius | Corner radius unchanged |
| Scales effects (blur, shadow) | Effects unchanged |
| Scales text size | Text box resizes, text wraps |
| Scales spacing in groups | Spacing unchanged |
Scale Origin
Choose where scaling originates from:
- Center - Scale from the center point (default)
- Corners - Scale from opposite corner
- Custom Origin - Click to set a custom origin point
Modifier Keys
Shift- Constrain to uniform proportionsAlt/Option- Scale from centerCmd/Ctrl- Scale without constraints
Precise Scaling
For exact scale values:
- Enter percentage in the Scale field (e.g., 150%)
- Use the Properties panel for W and H with link icon
- Type math expressions (e.g., *2 to double)
Scale Preset Dropdown
Azyrom provides quick access to common scale values via a preset dropdown in the Properties Panel:
| Preset | Use Case |
|---|---|
| 0.5x (50%) | Half size - thumbnails, icons, previews |
| 1.5x (150%) | Moderate enlargement - emphasize elements |
| 2x (200%) | Double size - create size variants, retina assets |
| 3x (300%) | Triple size - high-DPI displays, large variations |
| 4x (400%) | Quad size - print assets, billboards, large formats |
Simply select a preset from the dropdown to instantly scale selected elements. This is faster than typing percentages and provides consistent scaling across your workflow.
What Gets Scaled
By default, the Scale Tool scales all element properties proportionally:
- Dimensions - Width and height (always scaled)
- Position - Distance from origin point (always scaled)
- Stroke Weight - Line thickness (toggle: Scale Strokes)
- Corner Radius - Rounded corners (always scaled)
- Effects - Blur radius, shadow offset, spread (toggle: Scale Effects)
- Text - Font size, line height, letter spacing (always scaled)
- Gradients - Gradient size and position (always scaled)
Independent Scale Toggles
Azyrom provides two independent toggles in the Properties Panel to control what gets scaled:
Scale Strokes
- Enabled (default) - Stroke weights scale proportionally with the element
- Disabled - Stroke weights remain fixed at their original size
- When to disable: Scaling UI components where border thickness should stay consistent (e.g., buttons, cards, input fields)
- When to enable: Scaling icons, logos, or artwork where stroke weight is part of the design
Scale Effects
- Enabled (default) - Effects (shadows, blurs) scale proportionally
- Disabled - Effects remain at their original intensity
- When to disable: Scaling UI elements where shadow depth should stay consistent (e.g., cards, modals)
- When to enable: Scaling entire designs where effects are part of the overall composition
Create size variants of components: Disable "Scale Strokes" and "Scale Effects", then use the 0.5x, 2x, or 3x presets to create small/medium/large variants with consistent borders and shadows. Perfect for button size variations or responsive design systems.
Multi-Element Scaling
When scaling multiple elements:
- All elements scale together as a group
- Relative positions between elements are preserved
- Spacing scales proportionally
- Each element's properties scale independently
Common Use Cases
- Icon Resizing - Scale icons with their stroke weights
- Component Variants - Create size variants of components
- Responsive Design - Scale entire sections proportionally
- Print Prep - Scale artwork for different print sizes
Tips
- Use Scale Tool instead of resize when stroke weights matter
- Scale before applying final effects for best quality
- Group elements first for easier multi-element scaling
- Check "Scale Strokes" option in Preferences for default behavior
